Support of Facilities — $69 million

Boise State University’s campus environment must be capable of supporting its academic growth and athletic prominence, while contributing to the fabric of cultural life in metropolitan Boise. The university strives to provide an inclusive and accessible environment where students and citizens of the region and the state can engage in the exchange of ideas, enjoy athletic events and participate in the arts.

The campaign has selected four mission-critical building needs, but the Boise State campus master plan has also identified additional capital needs such as science buildings; a studio and performance art facility; the acquisition of East Junior High School and the creation of a multi-sport facility for Bronco and high school athletics; a science and nursing classroom building; facilities expansion at Selland College and a new visual arts studio and gallery.

Building a New Facility for the College of Business and Economics

All of Boise State University’s colleges play a role in contributing to Idaho’s economic future. The College of Business and Economics has the ability to fulfill its central role in economic development by engaging faculty in consultations and applied research as well as involving students in field projects, internships and case studies. A new facility will better allow the college to support cutting-edge education and learning technologies for undergraduate and graduate degree programs and to expand its interdisciplinary work with other units on campus.

Building a New Alumni Center

Boise State seeks a new Alumni Center as the home base to which alumni can always return. The multi-level center would also host scores of Boise State activities as a meeting and conference facility. This showcase building would be a stopping-off place for visitors, a historical archive and an integral partner with student activities on campus, allowing for a natural transition from student to alumni status and encouraging an active role after graduation. The Boise State University Foundation would join with the Alumni Association in calling this facility home.

Enhancing Intercollegiate Athletics

A strong athletic program enhances the academic environment and provides a well-rounded educational experience for all students. Intercollegiate athletics provides the community and the nation with a window to the university that can bring positive exposure to the campus. The “Initiative for Athletic Excellence” is the long-range plan for the athletic department and includes four areas of emphasis: capital projects, staffing, program upgrades and scholarships. The immediate focus is on the expansion of Bronco Stadium with a new press box and sky suite complex to be followed by an increase in stadium seating capacity.

Contributing to Health Care Education

Boise State serves the public by providing quality graduates in the health professions. The health sciences programs are enhanced by ongoing synergistic relationships with state, public, and non-profit hospitals and agencies in the Treasure Valley. However, the shortage in nursing professionals, and the health-care work force, is threatening to compromise care. A new nursing facility and health-care labs will support training for more students in health programs and produce more baccalaureate-trained nurses. The funding for this facility has already been completed in the early phase of the campaign.
